Bow Wow Road Farm, Nature Preserve & Farm Housing Project
This project supports two separate farms. Equinox Farm grows and packages greens, and Wild and Cultivated grows flowers for sale to local and regional markets and restaurants. SLT, The Nature Conservancy and the Community Land Trust in the Southern Berkshires continue to work to protect the three separate ownerships that together total 144 acres of open farm fields, unbroken forest land and the associated farm house on the south side of Bow Wow Road. SLT has acquired the first property and is working on the others which fit together like puzzle pieces for almost a mile along the road, and are integral to the quiet rural character of the neighborhood. The fields and forest are set against the backdrop of Mt. Everett rising in the west and the reflective mirror of Mill Pond across the road. The prime agricultural soils are suited for growing in both wet and dry years. Ecologically, the extensive upland forest and wetlands provide important wildlife habitat and travel corridors for diverse species and also act as a filter to protect the quality of the groundwater, streams and Mill Pond. To protect this land in perpetuity, we need to raise $237,000 to leverage over a million dollars of additional funding from the Commonwealth, the land owners, and the farmers. To make a contribution or pledge, please print and mail our donation or pledge form. Contributions to SLT are tax-deductible. Thank you!

The Bow Wow Road project continues the long-term agricultural use of a property that has sufficient acreage and productive soils for crop rotation and a viable farm business. SLT's partnership with two experienced and well established organic farmers will improve the agricultural capacity of the farm. |
