Howden Farm

Howden Farm has been part of the local community and landscape for as long as many people can remember. Bruce Howden's father combined two farms on Rannapo Road and developed the famous Howden and Howden Biggie pumpkins there. Today, in addition to the pumpkins, Bruce has brought back the sweet corn longtime residents remember so fondly, and will soon be offering a variety of pick-your-own berries. Walking through the fields with their vistas of the Housatonic and distant mountains, it's easy to imagine you've been transported back in time. The riparian corridor and scattered wetlands and floodplain along the river offer added ecological benefit. SLT spearheaded a multi-phase effort with The Trustees of Reservations and Berkshire Natural Resource Council to raise funds and protect Howden Farm with an Agricultural Preservation Restriction. Thanks to generous contributions from the community and a $100,000 challenge match from Bruce Howden in the form of a reduction in the purchase price of the development rights, we have successfully protected Howden Farm. Thank you for your support!
